French provinces Maio 26, 2008

After having spent several vacations in Paris, my friends and I finally decided to venture out into the French provinces and countryside and enjoy a magnificent experience renting a holiday gite outside of the city. First of all we headed to Calvados, which is in the French province of Normandy. This was late last December, and we were lucky to find such a great deal online. Here we were really able to delve into the essence of provincial French culture, with the slower pace of life along with the charming dialect of the language and the regional foods and culture.

Before we headed home we decided to rent another holiday gite, and we were equally as impressed. This time we stayed in Nievre, which is in the Burgundy region. The wine there was positively superb, as was the local cuisine and the friendly residents who seemed to be the polar opposite of their rushed and often rude Paris counterparts. Burgundy was absolutely breathtaking this time of year, and we feel that we finally came home from a French vacation completely relaxed and more enriched in several ways than our previous visits to just the capital city.

Contrariando a minha mãe, resolvi ir de carro até a cidade da minha vó. Até ontém, sempre sofri com a infeliz viagem de ônibus até la. Apesar de serem só uns 90km, a viagem dura umas 3 horas, com umas trezentas e oitenta paradas nas mais minúsculas cidades e vilarejos.

Confesso que eu fiquei meio apreensivo por não saber bem o caminho até lá, mas nada que o google maps não resolva. Imprimi alguns mapas e as indicações do caminho e pé na estrada. Logo na saída de Porto Alegre, já pensei ter perdido a primeira das entradas para a primeira - de três - rodovia que eu teria que percorrer, mas depois de uns cinco minutos de preocupação, vi que estava no caminho certo e já fiquei mais tranqüilo. Depois disso, o caminho foi bem calmo, o tempo todo cuidando os malditos pardais e, em 1h15min depois, eu estava lá ;)

Agora acho que até vou começar a ir mais freqüentemente pra lá, muito bom viajar ;)
